Marshmallow (Mushy)

In the beginning of August, 2008, Mushy was one of two bunnies in Wagga pound on death row because nobody had adopted him. We heard about his situation, and through the lovely dog rescuers, transport was arranged to have the boys brought most of the way to Sydney. We drove around one hour to meet him at the arranged location, and then travelled more than an hour to get home (yes, we got lost...)

Upon arriving home, we took Mushy out of the carry cage to find he was soaked in what appeared to be dried urine. It was mostly on his head, and because he was a long haired cashmere rabbit, his fur was covered in mats. The mats on his feet caused him to trip. He had diahorea, which was stuck to his fur.

It took four and a half hours of trimming and de-matting to keep as much fur on him as possible, so he would not be completely bald. He then had a rather humiliating bath to get the urine off his face. After a blow-dry he felt like a different rabbit, and looked more like a poodle than a rabbit when he went prancing about on the lawn. He had to wear a little jacket so the temperature change would not be too great and sleep inside where it was warm. He was such a good boy the entire time he was being groomed, having a great deal of patience and never scratching or trying to make an escape.

Mushy at home with us today in full glory!

Mushy was advertised for a while, however he was too special to us and is another rescue mascot we could never part with. He continues to sleep in my room with me, and enjoys hopping in the garden on nice days. His fur is long and beautiful, needing frequent brushing which is something I enjoy doing. He is one of those bunnies who loves a cuddle, and will sit with me in front of the television during the evening. He joined me at the Rabbit Fanciers Society Show, where he won first prize in “Best Pet” and best “Desexed Rabbit”, while coming second in the “Unrung Lop” class. (I’m convinced he would have received first place, but he couldn’t take all the trophies home as it wouldn’t have been fair to the other bunnies ;) I’m so proud of my beautiful boy!
